Melissa was forced to sit out last night's performance on Dancing with the star

On last night's Dancing With the Stars, (honorary) Single Lady Melissa Rycroft was a no-show. ABC's reality TV darling incurred a hairline fracture of the ribs during the previous week and suffered an unsuccessful reaction to treatment on Monday. Her condition doesn't sound too promising as of this Tuesday morning, so a graceful bow-out tonight would not be too surprising. As long as she's able to dance next week, I hope Melissa is okay. She's one of the best dancers of the season; plus, I cannot handle the sight of Papa Bear Tony crying again. My TV does not need to hear sweet, frustrated nothings such as ''Do not cry, sad bear! You are so well-built!'' Other than Melissa's absence, it was business as usual under the motion sickness-inducing rainbow lights. Chuck's ''hand bra,'' which I think we all assumed the producers would want to forget, popped up prominently in the ''scenes from last week'' montage. The artist currently known as my new hero wore a hideously awesome sparkly jacket in the front row. Lil' Kim has caught a mild strain of the Jewels Belong On One's Forehead virus from the permanently bedazzled house band singer, Carmen Carter; Kim is expected to make a full recovery.

A real affliction (Gilles' separated shoulder) may as well not exist thanks to the magic of cortisone and the collective self-delusion of everyone involved. In the face of great tragedy, it's comforting to know some things never change.
The contrast between last night's group tango and group mambo called to mind last season's pairing (paso and cha cha) — one dance was more dramatic and easier to sync up; the other was frenetic and inevitably goofy-looking no matter what. In the case of last night's lesser routine, the group mambo, the ''let's reinvent the term tighty whities'' agenda took care of that ''goofy-looking'' element, though the symmetry between the Technicolor staircase and the neon pink, green, and yellow accents in Team Mambo's costumes gave those white tights a run for their not-very-much-money.

Meanwhile, Bruno, who was in rare form last night, likened Team Tango to a pack of voracious ''rutches'' going for the attack. Between ''rutches'' and ''lazoo'' (in English: ''roaches'' and ''lasso''), it seems Mr. Tonioli's ghostwriter might have forgone the phonetic flash cards this week. Perhaps he/she was busy getting drunk with Bruno's choreographer. These two must work roughly an hour per month and communicate with Bruno exclusively in his native tongue, Jibberish. Would we really want it any other way?

Kim Kardashian loving her new blond hair !!

When most people lighten their hair, it doesn’t make headlines. But when you’re Kim Kardashian, going blond is a big deal. The notoriously brunette reality star showed off her lighter locks this weekend and even took to her Twitter page to celebrate the new look. “I’m loving my new blond hair!” Kim Kardashian Tweeted on Sunday. But just when we thought Kim Kardashian had gone all Lindsay Lohan on us and abandoned her trademark hair color to have more fun as a blonde, it turned out the transformation was just a farce. Yes, Kim Kardashian’s new do was just a wig, and Kim Kardashian cleared up all the speculation this morning on her blog.“It’s a wig! Did I have you fooled?” Kim Kardashian wrote. “I did a fabulous photo shoot this weekend, and they put this hairpiece on! I haven’t taken it off since, because I’m really loving the look. I’ve been wearing it around New York, and everyone thought it was my real hair! It’s making me want to dye my hair and maybe go lighter for the summer.

Beyoncé Knowles's curves are in all the right places

"I saw this dress online. I'm always on Style.com," Beyoncé Dances said of her sparkling Balmain dress with an endless black train on the red carpet at the Cinema Society and MCM-sponsored New York premiere of her film Obsessed. When her stylist friend found it for her, "he was so excited, he said, 'Please fit, please fit.' " And fit it did, but not without a lot of work on the part of Knowles. "I lost a lot of weight naturally, just from 12-hour rehearsals," Beyoncé Dances explained, attributing her recent weight loss to preparing to tour. "That's a lot of dancing. I would never work out for 12 hours, but I'm able to move around and not think about it. It's part of my job." Her other stay fit trick for fitting into those tiny tour costumes? "I've been trying to eat really clean," she told PEOPLE. "Fish and, in the morning, Special K." Knowles, joined by Jay-Z in the theater and, surrounded by bodyguards at The Bowery Hotel dinner after, accented the look with shinning chrome nails and a unique bracelet. "It's black and white jade and white diamonds," said the designer Lorraine Schwartz at the screening. "It's incredible. It was designed with her in mind." Source: people.com

Holocaust survivor, Ridge resident Walter Loeb has died

Former Chestnut Ridge resident Walter Loeb, who grew up in Germany and was arrested during the Kristallnacht attacks on Jews in 1938, died Monday at his home in Monroe Township, N.J., after an illness. He was 92. Advertisement Loeb was born July 12, 1916, in Birkenau, Germany, to Ferdinand and Rosalie Katzenstein Loeb, the younger of two sons. His daughter Judy Schreier of West Nyack said he was 22 and working in a bank on Nov. 10, 1938 - hours after the start of Kristallnacht, considered to be the unofficial beginning of the Holocaust. "He really lived his young adulthood there in, what was to him, his history, his homeland," she said. "He was so tied to his history and the language, too." She said he was arrested in Karlsruhe, Germany, in the hours after Kristallnacht began and was taken to Dachau, where he spent a year before being released. He got passage to the United States in 1940 and joined the U.S. Army, serving for five years in Okinawa and the South Pacific. He was awarded the Okinawa Battle Star and pre-Pearl Harbor medals. After the war, he earned a degree in television engineering in Chicago. He married Ilse Morgenstern, also a Holocaust survivor, on March 6, 1949, in Chicago. Loeb worked in television electronics for Sylvania Corp. in Massachusetts and for Raytheon Corp.; he later moved to New York and earned a degree in computer systems analysis from New York University. He worked as a senior systems analyst and technical writer at Chemical-Chase Manhattan Bank. He retired at age 74, and ran a German-English translation business for several years. Throughout his life in the U.S., he spoke about the Holocaust and what had happened. As an adult, he was invited back to Germany several times at the request of the mayor of Karlsruhe, and he was thrilled to make the trips, his daughter said. "What struck me most about my dad was how open-minded he was of all different types of people," she said. "People who would meet him, or hear my stories, would never fully understand how he could love his homeland of Germany. He would never discount an entire group of people and was always accepting of Germans of the new generation." Loeb was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, a board member of Temple Israel Synagogue in Natick, Mass., and a 50-year member of B'Nai Brith. He also belonged to Beth El Synagogue in East Windsor, N.J., and the Jewish Congregation of Concordia in Monroe Township, N.J. He was a member of several computer clubs and a volunteer leader of religious services for the elderly and a member of the Roaring Nineties Club in Monroe Township. He and his wife and four children moved to Rockland in 1966, settling in the part of Monsey now called Chestnut Ridge. He was a longtime member of Monsey Jewish Center and a Holocaust educator, working with his wife on projects and with the Holocaust Museum and Study Center in Chestnut Ridge, which his wife helped found. "He was a very honest, a very decent person," Schreier said. "He was just very honorable, very trustworthy and very intellectual. He loved to debate and he loved to read deep things about history ... because he lived it, he felt compelled to understand it. He had a sense of curiosity and a very strong work ethic." Anne Weissmann, who helped Ilse Loeb start the local Hidden Children group, said Walter Loeb was a true support for his wife; a great father; and good man. "He was so proud of whatever she was doing," Weissmann said. "He's just a great husband. Every husband should be like he was. There wouldn't be any divorce. It would be a perfect world." Holocaust museum education coordinator Lisa Stenchever said Loeb was held in high respect for his work at the center.

Drew Barrymore in 'Grey Gardens' - TV review

Grey Gardens: Starring Jessica Lange, Drew Barrymore, Ken Howard. Directed by Michael Sucsy, written by Sucsy and Patricia Rozema. 8 p.m. Sat., with encore broadcasts, on HBO. "Grey Gardens," the 1975 documentary by Albert and David Maysles about Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, "Little Edie," made a big splash at the time of its release because the two women living in splendid squalor in East Hampton were relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Yet, as great as the Maysleses' film was, it focused on only six weeks in the Beales' lives. For the rest of the story, turn tonight to HBO's superb feature film, also called "Grey Gardens," which not only re-creates scenes from the documentary but also flashes back in the Beales' lives to give us a bit more insight into why two wealthy and well-connected women shut themselves up in a filthy mansion, littered with garbage and cat feces. Whether you know the Maysleses' film or not, you'll be astounded at the performances of Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore as Big and Little Edie. In fact, let's not mince words here: Barrymore has sometimes been a pleasing personality in various films, but never, in anything she's ever done, was there a hint that she was capable of a performance like this one. She eerily replicates not only Little Edie's very odd manner of speaking (an aural mashup of Bronx-ese and tony finishing school) but also her disconcerting air of studied detachment as well. It's less of a surprise that Lange is just as good, but what she looks like in the part is a surprise: stringy white hair, thick-lensed glasses askew on her face, blackened and crooked teeth. Lange brings extraordinary power to Big Edie, showing her fear-fueled stubbornness, which, we quickly realize, is the reason she shut herself away from the world to begin with and dragged her daughter back from New York for company. The film also benefits from spot-on work by Ken Howard as Edith's husband, Phelan; Malcolm Gets as Edith's sycophantic piano accompanist in her younger days; and Jeanne Tripplehorn as Jacqueline Onassis. People who watched the Maysleses' documentary when it came out probably found the women strange, to say the least, but may have also felt sympathy for them in the end. That's the feeling that director and co-screenwriter Michael Sucsy is going for in the HBO film, and he achieves it in spades. Yes, at first, the Beales strike us as true oddballs. There's Big Edie, shuffling around the crumbling mansion with various articles of clothing tied around her body, commenting indifferently that a cat is urinating behind a portrait of her younger self propped against the bedroom wall. She bickers constantly with Little Edie, who tries to hide her bald head with a variety of sweaters, blouses and towels, tied like Renaissance headpieces at the nape of her neck, while musing that she'll probably never be able to leave Grey Gardens until her mother dies.

JOHANSSON ADDRESSES WEIGHT ISSUES IN BLOG

SCARLETT JOHANSSON has taken to the Internet to clarify speculation about her recent weight loss, urging tabloids to take greater care in reporting on body issues that could affect younger readers. In a blog posted on the website Huffington Post, the actress refutes rumours SCARLETT JOHANSSON has embarked upon a punishing exercise regime and strict diet to shed pounds for her role as the Black Widow in the forthcoming Iron Man sequel.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON insists she has simply been eating balanced meals and increasing her amount of physical activity to get in shape.
SCARLETT JOHANSSON writes: "Since dedicating myself to getting into 'superhero shape', several articles regarding my weight have been brought to my attention. Claims have been made that I've been on a strict workout routine regulated by co-stars, whipped into shape by trainers I've never met, eating sprouted grains I can't pronounce and ultimately losing 14 pounds off my 5'3" frame. "I'm a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I'd have to part with both arms. And a foot. I'm frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there." And the 24-year-old fears the press' stories could trigger eating disorders in impressionable fans.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON adds: "...I would be absolutely mortified to discover that some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City read one of these 'articles' and decided she wasn't going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could 'crash diet' and look like Scarlett Johansson... "I'm not normally the type to dignify toilet paper rags with a response, but in this case I feel it's my responsibility to comment. In a way, I'm glad some dummy journalist (and I use the term 'journalist' loosely) is banking on my 'deflating' so that I can address the issue straight from my healthy heart.

An insider tells www.xpress4me.com that the "Transformers" star is the top consideration top play She-Hulk, the girly version of the giant, green comic-book superhero.

"She-Hulk comics are popular so it's only natural that the character makes the transition to the big screen," the insider claims. "The idea is to make She-Hulk sexier but even more savage than the Hulk, which is why Megan is the big favourite for the lead role," the source continued.

"She’ll be green of course and will have to hang on to a few more pieces of clothes than the male version when she transforms!" Fans of the sultry brunette, sans any green body paint or CGI special effects, can see her in "Jennifer's Body," a dark comedy writen by Diablo Cody, due out later this year.

Lindsay Lohan hits the clubs

And now more in the continuing saga of Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson. The two broke up April 3, and since then, Ronson has changed her locks, her mom and sister have inquired about a restraining order against Lindsay Lohan and LiLo has poured her heart out to Us Magazine. Now, Lindsay Lohan is resorting to common post-breakup behavior by changing her hair and getting a new tattoo.

How else is she coping? According to Usmagazine.com, she's hitting the clubs -- three of them in one night, to be exact.
LiLo started Thursday night at Chateau Marmont, where she was barred from a Ronson family party last week. From there, Lindsay Lohan headed to Teddy's and finally to Bar Deluxe, a favorite Ronson hangout. No word on whether the rehabbed star was seen drinking or engaging in any of her other past activities. But that hasn't stopped even fellow celebs from talking. Earlier this week, Stevie Nicks had a strong reaction to the rumor that Lohan wants to buy the rights to her life story. "Over my dead body," Nicks told the New York Times. "She needs to stop doing drugs and get a grip.

Then maybe we'll talk." Nicks has been drug-free for 15 years, after 20 years of cocaine, alcohol and prescription drug addiction.
